WCSH political reporter Don Carrigan has an interesting interview with the infamous S. Donald Sussman, husband and benefactor of Maine Congresswoman Chellie Pingree. Sussman makes some dubious claims about Koch brothers donations, and takes a shot at GOP donor Ed Bosarge. No mention of Virgin Islands tax shelters though, or the Securities and Exchange Commission’s investigation of his financial activities. Click below to watch:
Pingree has never revealed the details of Sussman’s financial activities, even though she claimed a family exemption when answering House Ethics charges about her use of Sussman’s $25 million private jet last fall. Sussman’s finances will be laid bare in May, however, as House rules will force the newly-married couple to comply with financial disclosure requirements for husband and wife. In the interview, Sussman refers to himself as a ‘millionaire’, though previous accounts by the Portland Press Herald, Bangor Daily News, Business Insider, National Legal and Policy News, Huffington Post, and Weekly Standard, among many others, have described his worth in the billions. If those reports are accurate, this creates an entertaining bit of irony: Sussman understates his income by a factor of 1000 in the same sentence where he claims he’s got nothing to hide.
Perhaps the finance minister of the US Virgin Islands can back him up on this.
