Former Republican President Donald Trump has scored another major victory in Michigan against former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, the only other significant Republican candidate lingering in the GOP nomination contest.
Trump notched his largest margin of victory to date in the Wolverine State primary.
“I am so proud of the results because they’re far greater than we anticipated,” said Trump, speaking to a Michigan GOP watch party for the election.

After votes were tallied, results saw Trump leading Haley by a staggering 42 points, with Trump receiving 68.2 percent of the vote compared to Haley’s 26.5 percent.
Going into the Michigan primary, which followed just three days after Haley’s embarrassing loss in her home state of South Carolina, Haley was prepared for defeat.
“Our goal has been to try and reach as many people as we can, but we know he’s got the advantage in that,” said Haley in the lead up to the Michigan primary.
Michigan promises to be a crucial battleground state in the general election, and if Trump had defeated Haley by a slim margin, it could have spelled trouble for his general election performance, suggesting that he was unpopular in the state.
Those fears were dispelled after Trump’s monumental victory on Monday.
President Joe Biden did not fare nearly as well in the Democrat primary as Trump did among Republicans, emphasizing president Biden’s unpopularity, even among large parts of his own party.
Although Biden won his primary, he received only 618,006 votes, compared to Trump’s 755,909 votes in the Republican primary.
Michigan, which has the largest Arab population in the U.S., demonstrated its opposition to Biden over his support of Israel.
Statewide, 13 percent of Democrat votes were cast for “uncommitted” amounting to 100,995 votes.
In one town, Dearborn, Biden lost to “uncommitted” by 52%, numbers which bode very poorly for Biden in a crucial swing state.
