Maine’s legacy and corporate media — including the Bangor Daily News, the major television stations, and the collection of news websites now owned by a George Soros-controlled non-profit — utterly failed to cover the massive reaction to LD 227 on Tuesday.
The bill in question would create new legal protections for late-term abortions as well as sex-change treatments, including sex-change drugs and surgeries for minors. In addition, the bill would create protections for adults who traffick children across state lines into Maine in order to receive these treatments — even adults who are not related to those children.
Hundreds of activists turned out in opposition to the controversial bill, even despite tactics deployed by supporters to withhold information from the public about the bill. The text was released to the public only days before the hearing, and activists scrambled to show up to have their voices heard.
Despite the massive turnout, Mainers who get their news from legacy media outlets would haven’t the foggiest clue that anything unusual happened in Augusta today.
The rally of pro-life, conservative activists was easily the largest State House demonstration since last year’s ultimately unsuccessful effort to defeat Gov. Janet Mills (D) late-term abortion bill, which legalized abortion for any reason up to the moment of birth.
As of 8:00 pm Tuesday night, none of Maine’s allegedly non-partisan news outlets had front-page stories about LD 227 and the hundreds of activists who showed up at the State House, remaining in some cases for several hours and well into the night, in order to testify against the bill.
The bill is so radically written that some Republican lawmakers fear it will legalize the kidnapping of children if they are brought to Maine for the purpose of receiving sex-change treatments or abortions.
The bill could allow, for example, the rapist of the minor girl to bring her to Maine to obtain an abortion. The girl’s parents would have no legal recourse, and Maine law enforcement would not be allowed to intervene in order to return the girl to her parents or legal guardians.
Here’s a sampling of the coverage and testimony the Maine Wire documented as we followed the biggest event that happened today in Augusta.
Here’s an excerpt from the story the Maine Wire posted Monday night after learning about the surprise hearing:
HEARING – Tuesday @ 1:00 pm – Cross Building Room 220
Maine lawmakers will consider Tuesday a proposal to drastically expand legal protections for medical professionals and other individuals who conspire to mutilate children in the name of so-called “gender affirming” medical care.
The unprecedented proposal, which also encompasses providers of late-term abortions, will also break new legal ground in attempting to impose Maine-based policy preferences on jurisdictions where laws regarding sex-change services for minors and abortions are different.
Although the scientific consensus around surgical and drug-based interventions for individuals suffering gender dysphoria has shifted in recent years in favor of less permanent, intrusive options, that hasn’t stopped Maine policymakers from plowing ahead with policies that aren’t inline with more modern scientific studies and study reviews.

The bill — LD 227 — was deployed using a now-familiar ploy that involves introducing a generically named “concept draft bill” only to later substitute the bill for a massive amendment on short notice.
The tactic, which has been used frequently in recent years in order to reduce public scrutiny of legislative business, means that interested parties have had little time to understand the scope and impact of the bill, or to organize to attend the public testimony on March 5 at 1:00 pm in Augusta.
Rep. Laurel Libby (R-Auburn) was among the first Republican lawmakers to draw attention to the sly move by majority Democrats to advance the radical piece of legislation using the “concept draft” technique.
Dubbed the “Maine Healthcare Freedom Act,” this amendment would establish access to sex-change surgeries, sex-change drugs, and late-term abortions as a legal right in the Pine Tree State.
The proposed law would also seek to protect those of profit from providing sex-change surgeries, sex-change drugs, and late-ter abortion services for the laws of other states.
In addition, the proposal would create an ability for third-parties to sue individuals who attempt to interfere with the provision of sex-change drugs and surgeries — including parents who attempt to stop a third-party for facilitating a sex-change for their minor child.
The bill introduces the new term “legally protected health care activity,” covering the provision of sex-change and late-term abortion services within the state’s legal framework. This protective umbrella extends to health care practitioners and those assisting them, safeguarding against civil, criminal, or administrative actions initiated in other states aimed at deterring or punishing such activities.
The amendment allows individuals targeted by “hostile litigation” in other states to counter-sue in Maine, potentially recovering damages, punitive damages, and legal fees.
In practice, that means someone who trafficked a minor into Maine for a sex-change procedure would be protected by Maine laws and even allowed to sue for financial damages in some cases.
The cross-jurisdictional law is an unprecedented attempt to set policy on significant scientific, medical, moral, and cultural debates for not only Maine but the entire country.
The legislation restricts the enforcement of foreign judgments and subpoenas related to healthcare activities deemed protected under Maine law, i.e. sex-change and abortion services. And it even goes as far as preventing public agencies and law enforcement from cooperating with investigations or proceedings that clash with the state’s protective measures for providers and patients of these services.

Parts B and C of the amendment refine legal procedures and extradition conditions, further insulating Maine’s healthcare providers from out-of-state legal challenges. Meanwhile, Part D offers additional security measures for healthcare practitioners, including participation in the Address Confidentiality Program to shield their personal information.

The amendment also extends existing protections against discrimination by insurers and professional licensing authorities, ensuring that healthcare practitioners are not penalized for providing or assisting in sex-change services and late-term abortions. This includes a prohibition on adverse actions based solely on a practitioner’s involvement in such services or the status of any related disciplinary action in another state.

Thank you, Maine Wire!!!!
I was at the State House today in opposition to Bill LD 227…Mainers, wake up now. Your state is in fast decline, under these demonic politicians who are pushing bills/laws to take away your parental rights, laws to harm your children, laws to hinder your gun rights, laws to push cocaine/heroin legalization, laws to put illegals before citizens, laws to erase your basic American Constitutional Rights! What’s it going to take before Mainers wake up under complete Marxist rule. A government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take away everything you have…T. Jefferson…
Get angry, get involved, speak out…fight for it or, God forbid, lose it.
Liberalism is a mental disorder. This disorder is in conflict with those of good moral character who believe in a higher power
No rich conservatives to knock heads with the likes of Soros.
A big loss for the country, formerly known as, “America.”
But Trump said under oath that he has the right to grab women by their crotches…
Maybe you should focus on having a candidate who respects women and lives by the ‘Red Letters”.
It is obvious that Maine has become two states, as is happening in many states around the country. The need to create a formal separation will grow in late 2024/early 2025.
Is it too late to save Maine ?
Soros owned Maine media wants your children neutered. It’s part of Soros’ hatred of Western Civilization.
This has to be one of, if not the most evil pieces of legislation that has ever been presented in the den of iniquity called the Maine Legislature. The decline continues and the persecuting will be following. ME is becoming a death camp in its slide into a 3rd world commie hellhole. I pray the two witches who sponsored this abomination get voted out of office but I won’t be holding my breath on it.
The legislators who support this bill deserve NO respect. They do NOT represent the Maine people based on the in-person turn out and also the testimonies submitted online against this hideous bill. The proponents sweeten the language to justify their evil, but it’s really the murder of babies and the sexual mutilation of children that are at stake. Get fired up!
I am wondering if the offensive anti-Trump comment here by Mike Grove was in reference to the infamous Hollywood tape. Imagine speaking in the back of a bus with a group of male reporters “under oath”. Grove obviously wasn’t referring to that incident. Or was he? What did I miss here? Or is Grove just telling another anti-Trump fib?
Mike Grove: President Trump said that some woman will let you grab them by the crotch. Nothing new under the sun, some woman submit to men in power.

Right it’s all Trumps fault. Make a statement that has NOTHING to do with the discussion in order to take the focus away from YOUR friends molesting children. Typical.
Over the past 2 years many young people with gender identity issues have turned to violent mass murderers in shooting incidents. Though the media have tried to suppress this fact, it is true. Data doesn’t lie. Do we want our state to become a processing center for these violent disturbed individuals? NO
so sick!
