Maine’s top Democrats, alongside U.S. Sen. Angus King (I), have opted not to post LGBT-themed messages across their social media in celebration of so-called “Pride Month.”
In previous years, Gov. Janet Mills (D) has issued official statements on June 1.
Sen. King, who is also up for re-election, likewise ignored the start of the month, instead opting on June 3 to celebrate an organic farm run by Somali immigrants in Wales, Maine.
Even Maine House Speaker Rachel Talbot Ross (D-Portland) has neglected to publish a statement five days into the sacred progressive holy month.
Mills, who celebrated the start of June last year by attending an LGBT rally in Ogunquit where a pride flag was raised in the town’s Veteran’s Park, has yet to make any social media posts or issue any press releases concerning Pride Month.
Mills did, however, sign the official proclamation of June as “Pride Month” this year, but, unlike with other, similar proclamations, the proclamation was not publicized with any press release.
While June’s LGBT designation was relegated to the background, Mills happily drew attention to her proclamation of June as “Maine Dairy Month,” which came with a press release and a social media post.
“Today, I declared June as “Maine Dairy Month” and toasted the hardworking men and women that make up Maine’s dairy industry with a glass of Maine milk. This Dairy Month, let’s support the long-term success of Maine’s dairy industry by buying Maine milk and milk products,” said Mills on X.
Some of the state’s top companies, including Idexx Laboratories, L.L. Bean, and Baker Co. also ignored Pride Month.
The lack of attention paid to Pride Month by Maine Democrats comes after a 2023 survey conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) revealed that, for the first time in years, American support for LGBT issues has declined.
During an interview with PBS, Melissa Deckman, CEO of PRRI, revealed that while they have seen a slight drop in pro-LGBT sentiment nationwide, they have seen a sharp drop among young Americans aged 18-29.
The drop-off was most noticeable among young Republicans, two thirds of whom supported gay marriage in 2020.
“So one number really stands out to us. If you look at young Americans attitudes about same-sex marriage, and 2020 among Republicans, two thirds supported same-sex marriage rights. But in last year’s data among young Republicans aged 18 to 29, it’s less than half, that’s a really big cratering of support,” said Deckman.
Democratic Rep. Jared Golden (ME-CD2) neglected to comment on the far left celebration, but a review of his social media posts indicates that he has not historically promoted the symbolic event.
Golden is currently running for re-election in the state’s second Congressional District, which voted for former President Donald Trump in both 2016 and 2020.
Typically, most Democrat lawmakers have been outspoken in their celebration of LGBT Pride Month.
President Joe Biden followed the usual trend on the national level, putting out a lengthy statement celebrating the event, but only two of Maine’s top Democrats followed suit.
“No Mainer should live in fear because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Period. Pride Month is a time to celebrate hard-won freedoms and commit to equal protection under the law for the LGBTQ+ folks who are our friends, neighbors, colleagues, and fellow citizens,” said Maine Senate President Troy Jackson (D-Aroostook).
Far left Rep. Chellie Pingree (ME-CD1) also put out a statement, celebrating the event with an old clip of herself discussing Maine’s same-sex marriage with then-funny comedian Stephen Colbert.
In contrast to the lack of attention given to Pride Month by Mills, Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Commissioner Kirsten Figueroa sent out an email to multiple state agencies highlighting a cross departmental conference to discuss LGBT issues.
The conference is meant to discuss ways that Maine government can be more supportive to LGBT people and avoid alienating them.
The panelists at the event will discuss what, if anything, was said to them that made them feel a sense of belonging.
Just visited the Westbrook public library and noticed a display of children’s “Pride Month Books” in the kids section. My guess is that this isn’t the only library where they’re proselytizing. One thing the LGBTQW(Whatever) community doesn’t understand is that they’re tolerated, not accepted, no matter how much they push their twisted agenda.
F! you and the rainbow Mills.
Gays are disgusting. So are zionist christian’s.
Wake me when it’s hetero pride month.
