A new petition on Change.org to recall Gov. Janet Mills (D-Maine) from office has already garnered over 13,000 signatures just two days after it was started in the wake of the governor’s spat with President Donald Trump over her insistence that men should be allowed to compete in women’s sports.

“The feeling of disconnect between the populace and leadership is palpable and widespread. Various statistics underline the rural-urban divide that has been exacerbated by the Governor’s decisions,” said Melissa Moulton, the Maine woman who began the petition.
“Additionally, several of her policies contradict the economic growth and prosperity that should be our government’s priority. I am yet another citizen calling for change and improvement for our beloved state of Maine,” Moulton added.
Currently, Maine does not have a formal recall process for the governor, making any petitions calling for Gov. Mills’ removal largely symbolic.
Many of the petition signatories voiced through their comments strong opposition to Gov. Mills and a wide array of her policies, including her draconian handling of COVID-19, with mask and vaccine mandates, massive tax increases, and her recent threat to sue the Trump Administration to keep men out of women’s sports.
“It is time to get this treasonous leech out of our states government, and find someone who will put the people of Maine FIRST, instead of lining their pockets,” said one commenter identifying himself by the name Brad.
Brad also vowed not to visit Portland.
“Janet crossed the line when she doubled down on prioritizing males in female sports. Everyone I know is against this. They also are letting boys and girls change in the lockers rooms. We were forced to homeschool due to how insane Gorham school district is,” complained parents Adam and Jessica.
“It’s shocking to think she represents us yet truly has no idea what we want. She is poison to our state, she is poison to our children and needs to be removed immediately,” said Andrew.
“Janet had no problem pushing executive orders to put ME business owners & healthcare workers out of employment during covid, but she’s defying an executive order of our US president. It’s treasonous & hypocritical,” declared Tamra.
“Too long have we suffered ever increased taxes, increased trans child castration cult GARBAGE, and the importation of ILLEGALS that we are FORCED to pay for! The time is NOW for Austin Powers Mills to GO,” said Randy.
“I’m sick of being completely unrepresented as a middle class parent in the state of Maine. I can’t financially afford this administration and their abortion policies are only met by Communist North Korea and China,” said Laura.
“Come on, AUGUSTA — do your jobs!! Free Maine from the Tyranny of Jackboot Janet Mills,” said Naran.
The petition links to a Facebook page organizing the “March against Mills” protest set to be held in front of the State House in Augusta on March 1.
“Just found out about the protest against our governor this weekend. Forcing my husband to go. This is more important than sitting around. Something needs to change in Maine,” said Abby.
Mills has not yet acknowledged the petition submitted to her on Monday and on Tuesday remained completely silent when confronted by The Maine Wire and other news outlets at the State House.
Mills’ cumulative policy decisions over recent years have now suddenly faced increased scrutiny both locally and nationwide after a video went viral in which President Trump berated her last week for standing by what polls show to be an unpopular school policy allowing transgender-identifying males to compete against girls in sporting events.
“Well you better do it, [comply with the order], you better do it, because you’re not going to get any federal funding at all if you don’t. And, by the way, your population, even though it’s somewhat liberal, although I did very well there, your population doesn’t want men playing in women’s sports,” said Trump.
Mills has vowed to take legal action against Trump for threatening to pull over $280 million worth of federal funding from Maine schools that refuse to comply with his executive order removing men from women’s sports.
If the Mills administration loses in court, the state will face a massive increase in its impending half-billion-dollar budget deficit, all apparently for the sake of allowing biological males participate in female school sports. Recent polling shows 79 percent of Americans, and 67 percent of Democrats, oppose this position.
