A political science professor at the University of Maine (UMaine) sent out a recruitment flyer for the UMaine Orono Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), a left-wing activist group that describes themselves as “anti-ICE” and hopes to turn the public university into a “sanctuary school” for illegal aliens.
Robert Glover, a UMaine associate professor of political science with degrees from the University of Connection and University of Massachusetts, sent out the recruitment email to students.
Glover’s research focuses on public policy and political engagement, and he is “pursuing ongoing projects related to drug policy attitudes and the attitudinal impacts of serving as a poll worker,” according to his official UMaine biography.
“Hi all, I’m sending this flyer on behalf of one of our students, Katelyn Spearin, who is a coordinator for UMaine Orono Student for a Democratic Society,” Glover wrote.
“If you’re interesting in learning more or being involved you can scan the QR code below. Thanks, all,” he wrote.

The UMaine Orono SDS flyer attached to the email states that the organization is “pro-LGBTQ,” “anti-fascist,” “pro-Palestine,” “anti-war,” “pro-women’s rights,” “anti-ICE,” “pro-union,” “anti-police brutality” and “pro-free speech.”
“Protect students and staff from ICE invasions and unjust deportations,” the flyer reads. “Trump’s administration is attacking innocent people and we must push back.”
“Help us declare sanctuary school status and keep ICE off our campus,” it reads.
The UMaine Orono SDS is a chapter of the national Students for a Democratic Society, a progressive student activist organization originally founded amid the social upheaval of the 1960s as the successor to older socialist student organizations.
The far-left Marxist domestic terrorist group Weather Underground started as a faction of SDS.
A new national SDS organization was re-founded in 2006 as a response to the U.S. invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, and has over 40 student organization chapters across the country.
The University of Maine is a public land grant university funded largely by taxpayers through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). In FY24, the USDA awarded the UMaine nearly $30 million for “research and extension” that was used across a variety of program and initiatives.

The USDA briefly paused federal funding to UMaine as the result of the department’s investigation into the UMaine System’s compliance with Title IV and Title IX, citing “the State of Maine’s blatant disregard for President Trump’s Executive Order (EO) 14201, Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports.”
Sen. Susan Collins (R) said in a statement on Wednesday that USDA funding to UMaine had been reinstated.
Well, this type of nonsense should help our kids get a job and make a contribution to society.
I guess being under investigation and temporarily losing funding wasn’t a big enough hint to cut the bullshit at U Maine.
So is the town of Orono also full of illegal aliens ….or is it all just pot heads ?
I thought the SDS quit carrying on in the late sixties …..SDS is passé .
Who wants to be a weatherman today when you can be a barista instead ?
