Ousted Fox News primetime star Tucker Carlson released an interview Wednesday with Devon Archer, an ex-business partner of Hunter Biden who testified Monday to the House Oversight Committee.
In his testimony, Archer revealed that Hunter Biden had put his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, on speakerphone during business meetings more than 20 times over a ten year period in order to sell the Biden “brand.”
Tucker Carlson began his interview by asking what specific skills Hunter Biden brought to his business partnership with Archer.
“Well at the end of the day, you know, he had a career in Washington, graduated Yale Law School, and had a very big network in D.C., and brought that know-how and understanding of D.C., and ultimately the Biden brand,” Archer said.
Carlson asked Archer if he believed Hunter would have had those positions in business if his father were not the vice president.
Archer said that Hunter was valuable because of the Biden brand, and because of his connections in the regulatory sector that would facilitate businesses transitioning into private equity.
“Regulatory issues. So that would be more [Hunter’s] area. But did he have a sophisticated understanding of regulation did you think?” Carlson asked.
“I think that he led a team that had a sophisticated…” Archer began to answer before both he and Carlson began laughing.
“I think you’ve got to be an expert in knowing the guy, and he was the guy that was the expert in knowing the guy,” Archer said.
“Understanding a regulatory environment means selling access, at the end of the day,” he added.
Archer compared Hunter Biden to the Greek mythological figure Icarus, saying that he was “too close to the sun.”
“It was too good to be true, and the connections were too close, and the scrutiny too much,” Archer said. “And it ended up destroying — you know, he left a wake of a lot of destruction in businesses over a number of years.”
Archer confirmed to Tucker that over a year partnership, Joe Biden had called into Hunter’s business meetings around 20 times.
“So Joe Biden, who’s very much a product of Washington, of course must have known that he was calling in to effectively a business meeting that his son was having. I mean, he must have understood that that was kind of what his son was selling,” Carlson said.
“Well, it’s hard for me to speculate on that,” Archer said, before they both broke out into laughter again.
Archer said that there were definite instances when Joe Biden called into his son’s business meetings knowing that his business associates were present.
“To be completely clear on the calls, I don’t know if it was an orchestrated call in or not, it certainly was powerful though,” Archer said. “Because, if you’re sitting with a foreign businessperson, and you hear the vice president’s voice, that’s prize enough. I mean, that’s pretty impactful stuff for anyone in the world.”
“The power to have that access, and that conversation, and it’s not in a scheduled conference call, and it’s a part of your family, that’s the pinnacle of power in D.C.,” Archer said.
“In the rear view, it’s an abuse of soft power, I’d say,” he added.
Carlson then presented a 2011 letter from Vice President Biden to Archer, in which Biden thanked Archer and apologized for not being able to speak to him at a luncheon because he was speaking with former Chinese President Hu Jintao.
“These are not business guys, this is the vice president of the United States. He’s not allowed to be working on businesses with foreign governments while he’s vice president, I don’t think,” Carlson said.
“Not that I know of,” Archer responded, to which Carlson laughed and said “But here he is.”
“Right,” Archer said.
