Facebook, Instagram, and other services operated by Mark Zuckerberg’s META experienced a worldwide outage as users were unable to log in to most accounts.

Meta spokesman Andy Stone was forced to issue his initial statement on the outage on X, while Facebook was down.
“We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now,” said Stone.
The outage, which began around 10:00am, prevented users of Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram from accessing their accounts for roughly two hours.
WhatsApp, which is also owned by Meta, was unaffected by the outage.
After the outage was resolved, Facebook did not specify the cause of the outage, citing a “technical issue” without further elaboration.
“Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience,” said Stone.
Elon Musk, owner of X, used his platform to mock Facebook for its outage.
“If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working,” said Musk.
The outages led to concerns about a cyberattack, after recent FBI reports that China is poised to launch a devastating cyberattack on the U.S. at will.

During the Meta outages, other websites, such as YouTube, were receiving increased reports of issues, but not widespread outages.
“Cyberattack” began trending on X, with many users expressing suspicion about the outages which came on Super Tuesday.
“What a coincidence that Facebook, IG, and YouTube are down on the Super Tuesday Practice run for November,” said X user AJ Huber.
The Meta outages came just weeks after a major outage stopped cellular service for many people using AT&T as their cell provider.
That outage, which lasted much longer than the Meta outage, also led to concerns of a cyberattack, although AT&T also attributed their outage to technical difficulties.
Another incident, just days before the AT&T outage, left a national healthcare company, Change Healthcare, without the ability to provide many of its services.
Maine, a recipient of those services, has suffered from that outage, because MaineCare uses Change Healthcare to validate coverage for prescription drugs.
