New Hampshire’s Republican-led Senate on Friday passed two bills that aim to protect young female athletes and provide parents with greater oversight of sexually explicit books in public school libraries.
The two bills, SB 523-FN and SB 375 sparked intense controversy in the Senate but eventually passed with a 14-10 vote along party lines.
“We want to protect the safety and opportunities of female athletes. That is what this bill does. In New Hampshire and across the nation, a growing number of biological males are joining middle and high school girls and college women’s sports teams,” said Sen. Kevin Avard (R-Nashua) who sponsored both bills.
Democrats were appalled by the votes, calling the bills “shocking and extreme”, with one even saying that they constitute violence.
“Denying a person’s existence, restricting their access to things because you don’t understand gender identity is violence,” said Sen. Debra Altschiller (D-Stratham).
SB 375 requires that all school sports, except those explicitly considered coed, be designated as either male or female, and that no biological males be allowed into female sports, regardless of what gender the male identifies as.
The bill also prevents biological males from entering locker rooms or restrooms meant for female students.
The other bill, SB 523-FN prevents schools or employees of schools from providing any books deemed “harmful to minors,” which, in most cases, includes explicit sexual content.
The bill also allows parents to complain to the school about material they believe to be harmful.
The school will then investigate the material, and, if it is determined that the material is harmful as defined by the bill, it will be removed from schools.
Additionally, the bill requires vendors that sell materials to school libraries to establish an age rating system for all books.
Both bills will now move on to the N.H. House, in which Republicans maintain a small majority of 201-195.
As New Hampshire legislators are pushing back against transgender ideology, Maine’s Democrat-controlled legislature is working to pass a bill, LD 227, which would protect people who bring minors from out of state to receive irreversible and harmful transgender procedures and surgeries.
Politically, New Hampshire is the most pro-White state in New England.
Appears to me that libraries are over funded if they have the resources to buy the latest books on child perversion.
Even though New Hampshire’s conservative population has been diluted by blue state refugees it’s nice to have a neighboring state to compare Maine’s leftist nuttiness with.
Sad that this is where things have progressed to. That these types of bills have to be passed to protect children and women from evil. Good for NH but the lefty nuts won’t stop pressing for their perversion to be enshrined in law.
Makes me happy to be a New Hampshire resident.
