Vice President Kamala Harris (D) currently holds a sizable lead over former President Donald Trump (R) in Maine, according to the Pine Tree State Poll, a States of Opinion Project, conducted by the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Survey Center.
This poll also revealed partisan divides over whether or not President Joe Biden (D) should finish the remainder of his term in office, as well as the perceived ability of the FBI to conduct a thorough investigation of the attempted assassination of former President Trump.
Mainers appear to be united, however, with respect to their concern over the potential for more political violence to occur between now and November.
When asked who they would support for president if the election were held today, 48 percent of Mainers said that they would cast their ballot for Vice President Harris, while 40 percent said they would vote for Trump.
4 percent expressed support for independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., while an additional 4 percent said they were unsure. The remaining percentage points were spread between Jill Stein, Chase Oliver, Cornel West, and an unnamed other candidate.
With respect to President Biden’s withdrawal from the race, 48 percent of Mainers said they felt “relieved” and 32 percent said they were “hopeful.”
Among independents, the percentage of those who felt “relieved” increased to 51 percent. 19 percent said they were “indifferent” and 18 percent felt “hopeful.”
Democrats were the most “relieved” demographic, with 56 percent using the term to describe their reaction to Biden’s withdrawal. 54 percent said that they were “hopeful,” while 29 percent said they felt anxious.
Relief was also the dominant feeling among Republicans, noted by 39 percent of respondents. 26 percent of Republicans said the decision made them “happy,” and 22 percent said they felt “ecstatic.”
Despite this, the majority of Mainers feel that Biden should serve out the remainder of his term (54 percent). Among Democrats, however, 86 percent feel he should remain in office until next January.
48 percent of independents and just 20 percent of Republicans feel that Biden should finish out his term in office.
Depending upon party affiliation, satisfaction with Harris’ likely nomination as the Democratic presidential candidate varies.
While 76 percent of Democrats said they prefer to see Harris as the nominee, 43 percent of independents and 59 percent of Republicans said that they would rather have someone else on the ticket.
Among those who said they would prefer a different Democratic nominee, Kennedy was the most popular choice (25 percent), followed closely by Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) (20 percent). 16 percent said they were unsure who they would prefer to run in Harris’ place.
Those who support Harris’ nomination were asked who they would most like to see her select as her running mate. Pete Buttigieg was the most popular choice, having been named by 21 percent of respondents.
26 percent of those surveyed said they were not sure who they want Harris to pick as the Democratic vice presidential candidate.
Mainers were also asked as part of this survey about political violence and their level of trust in the FBI to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Trump.
Although 55 percent of respondents said that they do have faith in the FBI’s ability to conduct a thorough investigation, this number varies widely depending upon party affiliation.
Just 21 percent of Republicans have confidence in the agency’s capability, compared to 83 percent of Democrats. Independents are largely divided on the issue, with 57 percent indicating trust in the agency’s ability to investigate the assassination attempt.
The vast majority of Mainers are also concerned about the likelihood of more political violence occurring in the coming months.
86 percent of those surveyed were either very (55 percent) or somewhat (31 percent) worried that “people will try to interfere with the election process using illegal or violent methods.”
80 percent expressed concerns over the possibility of “political leaders [using] illegal or violent methods to gain or hold on to power.”
Nearly the same percentage (79 percent) said they were worried that a political leader they support would be “violently attacked because of their political beliefs or affiliation.”
A smaller but still substantial percentage (43 percent) were concerned that they or someone they know would be “violently attacked…because of your/their political beliefs or affiliation.”
With respect to concerns over political leaders using violence, as well as the safety of themselves and their loved ones, Independent and Republican respondents were nearly identical.
Republicans were more concerned about election interference and violence against political leaders, although a significant portion of Independents still indicated that they were worried about these possibilities, coming in at 75 percent and 61 percent respectively.
Democrats and Republicans were about equally concerned about the possibility of election interference, as well as the potential for an attack against political leaders they support.
Apparently these boneheads don’t really care about full scale Nuclear War, Bring it on! Hank Johnson is a Mensa compared to this idiot. Doesn’t surprise me as Chellie Pingree and Angus King keep getting elected.
Is anybody surprised? We vote for an old goat for governor who’s first priority is to spend down the rainy day fund that Lepage had to build back up from another democrat governor. Then when all the Covid mandates hit saw the chance to keep sucking money from the federal government as long as she kept us on the (phoney) mandates longer than we needed to be. We keep voting in idiots like King and Pingree who have the collective IQ’s of a crayon. Pingree who has never sponsored a bill originally written by her or her staff. We absolutely deserve what we get if this cackling idiot is elected president.
cant trust the polls, they are really miss representing… how many people took place in the poll!? a sample group in the ten of thousands i would find enough to judge the maine population which is over a million. where do they find these people? ive never been asked to take one and never met anoyone who has….
People say immigration has no consequences ? Look how the Invasion of LIBTARDS from MASS, CT. NY. R.I. et al. have destroyed the traditional Maine Culture .. Don’t even get me started on the Sub-Saharan Feral Wildlife that has shown up….I say go back to “If you don’t own property you don’t get a vote”.
I don’t buy the accuracy of this poll. For months DJT was leading Biden by enough to suggest that he may take 3 electoral votes. Now Kamala leads by 8?
PsyOp poll
Bullshit alert!!!
as always everyone I talk to wants trump here in Maine but somehow the Dems are in the lead now ? why does reporting go away from the truth no wonder we don’t believe the media any longer
Too bad the national popular vote isn’t effective for this election. It’s gonna be a sweet deal when conservatives have the popular vote, and Maine throws its two electoral college votes for the conservative candidate!
Don’t trust the FBI or the Secret Service to protect Donald Trump? You’d be correct.

Maine voters are stupid. A big reason is local media. They watch tv news and think they’re informed. All the local tv stations are liberals and constantly run cover for all Democrats. Not many people know about any of the stories from Maine Wire because they’re lazy. They like to be told what to think and how to vote.
Why aren’t the Dem voters outraged over the bait and switch that has happened?
They didn’t vote for Harris and the way the Dem Party rigged the primaries, there were no real primaries.
The local media told them to be happy about it so they obey like good Borg drones.

@beachmom. No. Maine voters aren’t stupid. However, CD1, which includes the coastal region and Portland and other bastions of progressives, has sufficient population of transplants from MA, CT, and NY to counter we libertarians and conservatives in the rest of the state.
Liberals infested Maine, like cockroaches.
I fear if this is true that the people of maine will finally remove any doubt they are in fact dumb, potato picking hicks and should absolutely be manipulated by others.
The Governor said Mass. is all filled up and they are paying for illegals go away. Send them to Delware not Maine. I am finished paying.
“…muh, poll!”
These polls are meaningless propaganda. Try polling outside of Portland! Anyone can target a certain group and get favorable results. Let us know as soon as the ballots are counted and how many more need to be printed to get Harris selected. Total BS!
So here’s the thing, even after the disastrous last 3.5 years we’ve witnessed some will still vote democrat. These people can’t be helped so don’t try. Hopefully, through abortion their type will slowly fade into extinction. History books will describe them as a moronic cult with a fetish for self-harm. Children won’t believe that anyone could ever have been so stupid to knowingly destroy their way of life because of their blind stubbornness. It’s like watching a dumb animal play in the road, they have no clue what’s about to happen.
I don’t believe these polls for a nano second. There are more of us who have the sense to see what is going on in this country than those who still have their head in the sand and will vote democratic by habit, not by knowledge.
Poll results depend upon whom is asked and how the question is worded. Next, the “results” can depend upon who hired the poll and what results the so-called poll taker thinks the people who are paying for the poll want to see. Poll taking is rather similar to the 2020 presidential election: It is not the votes that count, it is who counts the votes that counts.
I would not trust anyone in the US and Maine government to investigate anything!!! Look at the Lewiston shooting, its obvious to an idiot the US Army screwed up along with the Sagadahoc County sheriffs. Who will be held accountable, NO ONE. Maine people use to have common sense, they are sorely lacking in it now. Just keeping voting the DemocRATs-Communists in and enjoy the ride.
I get calls to participate in polls and always hang up. It’s a waste of my time and why would anyone want to tell a stranger what they think? Also, who knows what your political thoughts as identified by your phone number may be used for in the future? (Remember these words: “Just because you may be skeptical or even paranoid doesn’t mean no one’s after you”.) As far as dems go, there’s no convincing people who can’t alter their long-held mind-set. It’s not about how people think so much as the way thought pattern’s develop over time and the falsehoods everyone has taken in. Don’t waste time trying to convince anyone about what’s “right”. Just live as truthfully as you can and seek out like-minded people, which is a bit of work here in southern Maine…
it’ll be rigged to favor the dems, no worries for them.
My wife and I came to the realization we must leave Maine. 76 and 75 respectively it is not simple. Health is quite good. So do it while that is the case.
….OK, so why would Mainers listen to a poll out of New Hampshire???? What a bunch of phooey…. MAGA, MMGA, … hey, anyone know a guy from N.H. named Mike Gill? He knows alot about N.H.
My wife and I have lived and worked here most of our adult like and have diligently saved for our retirement. With a little skill and a lot of luck we have assessed quite a nice 401k. We’ll be pulling roots, I will not be giving any of it to Maine thanks to the mess Mills and the other libs have caused. But don’t worry I’m sure the illegal’s will be making up the difference in the tax revenues.
I chose to relocate five years ago to the free State of Florida with great pain after watching this state turn blue. It amazes me in looking at the numbers that matter like taxes, personal income, cost of energy, cost of goods, poor medical, poor education, lack of opportunity, etc. I ask why Mainers are willing to accept this?
looks like the 10% margin for cheating is already built in
